What Each One Actually Is

Concrete piling systems, the budget option quoted around North Alabama, stack precast concrete cylinders in a hole under the footing and jack the house on top of the stack. They are shallower by nature, the stack typically stops when resistance is met, which in Tennessee Valley clay can still be inside the zone that swells and shrinks with the seasons. When that active clay moves, the pier riding in it can move too.

Driven steel push piers and helical steel piers take a different approach: steel advances down until it reaches load bearing strata or verified resistance well below the seasonal moisture zone. The house is then resting on ground that does not care whether August was dry. That depth is the entire point, and it is why steel bids run higher. Which steel type fits which house is its own question, covered in our push piers vs helical piers guide.

How to Read Your Huntsville Bids

When two bids are thousands apart, they are usually not bidding the same repair. Check three things: how deep each system goes and how depth is verified, what the warranty covers and whether it transfers, and whether anyone measured your floors or just eyeballed the crack. A cheap lift that fails in three summers costs more than doing it once, and this clay does not give second chances quietly. Our free inspection produces a written scope with pier counts, placement, and a firm number, and our cost guide shows the honest ranges before we ever visit. Bring us your other bid, we will tell you plainly what it does and does not include.
